
Mbaka chosen for visiting professorship in Atlanta
The two-day visit is sponsored by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons.

USA Health trauma surgeon Maryann Mbaka, M.D., FACS, has been chosen for a visiting professorship program in 2024âŻthat is sponsoredâŻby the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons.
Mbaka, an assistant professor of surgery at the WhiddonâŻCollege of Medicine and associate program director for the General Surgery Residency Program, will serve as a visiting professor at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.âŻ
âDr. Mbaka is very deserving of this honor,â said William O.âŻRichards, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Surgery at the Whiddon College of Medicine. âBeing chosen for this visiting professorship program not only recognizes her past achievements but also provides an opportunity for her to grow as a leader and further her career.ââŻ
The AAST/SBAS Visiting Professorship Program involves a two-day visit during which the visiting professor gives grand rounds and has opportunities for mentorship and involvement with students, residents and faculty.âŻ
Mbaka earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in GalvestonâŻand completed her general surgery residencyâŻat the University of California San Francisco East Bay. She also completed a traumaâŻandâŻsurgical critical care fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.âŻ
